American Sign Language (ASL) is used for deaf people in America and south of Canada and it belongs to the one-hand family. The work carried out in this thesis includes the analysis of recognition performance of ASL fingerspelling under four main methods. Mainly the prominent feature extraction, Principal Component for ASL Fingerspelling Recognition Katerina Papadimitriou, Gerasimos Potamianos Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, University of Thessaly, Volos 38221, Greece [email protected], [email protected] Abstract Although fingerspelling is an often overlooked component of sign languages, it has great practical value in the communica-Automatic Arabic sign language recognition (ArSL) and fingerspelling considered to be the preferred communication method among deaf people. In this paper, we propose a system for alphabetic Arabic sign language recognition using depth and intensity images which acquired from SOFTKINECT™ sensor. The proposed method does not require any extra gloves or any visual marks. Local features from ...ASL Fingerspelling Resource Site Free online fingerspelling lessons, quizzes, and activities. Three persons performing static signs from the ASL alphabet were recorded using Intel Creative Gesture Camera. For each subject, RGB images, depth images and confidence maps were recorded. The goal of this thesis work is to implement a convolutional neural network on an FPGA device with the capability of recognising human sign language. The set of gestures that the neural network can identify has been taken from the Swedish sign language, and it consists of the signs used for representing the letters of the Swedish alphabet (a.k.a. fingerspelling).

develop a system which allows a non-sign-language speaker to understand the fingerspelling of a sign language. In this work a system has been developed to detect fingerspelling in American Sign Language (ASL) and Bengali Sign Language (BdSL) using data gloves. A data glove is just a glove which has a number of sensors attached to it.ASL-LEX is a lexical database that catalogues information about nearly 1,000 signs in American Sign Language (ASL). It includes the following information: subjective frequency ratings from 25-31 deaf signers, iconicity ratings from 21-37 hearing non-signers, videoclip duration, sign length (onset and offset), grammatical class, and whether the sign is initialized, a fingerspelled loan sign ...ASL Fingerspelling Interpretation Hans Magnus Ewald Department of Electrical Engineering Stanford University ... Systems and methods for sign language recognition are described to include circuitry to detect and track at least one hand and at least one finger of the at least one hand from at least two different locations in a room, generate a 3-dimensional (3D) interaction space based on the at least two different locations, acquire 3D data related to the at least one detected and tracked hand and the at ... Vision-based sign language recognition aims at helping the hearing-impaired people to communicate with others. However, most existing sign language datasets are limited to a small number of words. Due to the limited vocabulary size, models learned from those datasets cannot be applied in practice. In this paper, we introduce a new large-scale Word-Level American Sign Language (WLASL) video ...

For example, one project described as translation into sign language aimed to take subtitles and turn them into fingerspelling. This is one of many reasons why much of this technology, including sign-language gloves, simply doesn't address the challenges. However there are benefits to achieving automatic sign language recognition.Supplementary Material: Fingerspelling recognition in the wild with iterative visual attention Bowen Shi1, Aurora Martinez Del Rio 2, Jonathan Keane , Diane Brentari Greg Shakhnarovich 1, Karen Livescu 1Toyota Technological Institute at Chicago, USA 2University of Chicago, USA fbshi, greg,[email protected] famartinezdelrio,jonkeane,[email protected]Datasets/ German Fingerspelling Database. Developing sign language applications for deaf people can be very important, as many of them, being not able to speak a language, are also not able to read or write a spoken language. Ideally, a translation systems would make it possible to communicate with deaf people. The proposed model is called SecDia FLD. An extensive experimentation conducted on a large fingerspelling dataset revealed the superiority of the proposed model. In addition, we have also brought out the effectiveness of the proposed model on the Yale face dataset Modeled on a previous study of American Sign Language (ASL) (Wulf, Dudis, Bayley, & Lucas, 2002), we investigated the extent to which linguistic and social factors systematically condition variation in the overt expression of subjects in Australian Sign Language (Auslan) and New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL).
